Narpati Luthra, a mechanical engineer has graduated from IIT Delhi in 1970 and MBA from IIM Ahmedabad in 1972. He started his career in finance in a textile mill (Rustom Mills) in Ahmedabad. Over the next few years, he got interested in the newly developing field of Information Technology. In 1979, he joined the IT department of National Dairy Development Board, Anand as the in-charge of systems development.
Later, in 1982, he joined Kirloskar Cummins as a specialist in large-scale database design. In 1984, Luthra took over as the Head of Computer Services at Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd(KOEL), Pune. He was responsible for implementing one of the earliest online manufacturing systems in India.
Due to his interest in people processes and HR, he got involved in training and development activities at KOEL. Later, in 1991 he became the Head of HR and Personnel and IR of KOEL. He has introduced many innovative HR practices. One of his major work was in creating a process to systematically reshape the cultural identity of an organisation.
Then he moved to Kirloskar Group as Head of HR and Managing Director of Kirloskar Consultants Ltd. Later, he also worked as President of Kirloskar Proprietary (Company responsible managing Kirloskar Brand).
He was even involved in setting up of Kirloskar Institute of Advanced Management Studies (KIAMS) at Harihar, and Pune.
