Kirloskar Institute of Advanced Management Studies (KIAMS) was set up in 1991 by the Kirloskar Group at Harihar to put its illustrious leader Mr. S.L Kirloskar's thoughts to practice. Mr. S.L Kirloskar , the doyen of Indian industry was a visionary of a rare kind who possessed the drive and the determination to accomplish his vision.
The emergence and subsequent success of the Kirloskar Group companies in the firmament of the engineering industry in India was one of his visions realized. Recognizing the need for fostering managerial and organizational excellence in the context of the liberalization of the Indian economy, KIAMS dedicated itself to the task of Management Development in the Kirloskar Group and for other companies.
In 1998, having made a mark in the area of executive education in the country, KIAMS ventured into training bright young minds in high quality management education to meet the managerial leadership needs of the country. This is offered as a two-year fully residential Post Graduate Diploma in Management Programme (PGDM) in Harihar.
Encouraged by the success of its alumni in industry KIAMS has started its second campus at Pune in 2010. Both the campuses are approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.
At KIAMS several initiatives are in place to ensure that well rounded executives emerge out of the PGDM program. StEP or Student Enhancement Plan is a unique practice at the Institute designed to strengthen the fundamentals needed of a manager to flourish in the corporate work place. This is executed through the Mentor-Protégé groups formed. The professors (mentors) handhold students (protégé) in improving the latter’s soft skills as well as technical cum managerial skills. Because of the Student Enhancement Plan, at the end of the two-year PGDM program several skill sets of a student are considerably enhanced. These include communication skills, attitude development as well as critical analysis ability, current affairs knowledge, quantitative & qualitative aptitude and domain knowledge. A ‘Communication and Awareness Forum’ exists which supports students to become aware of developments happening in the environment.
KIAMS has a strong bond with its alumni who are employed in several blue chip companies. These executives are frequently invited to campus to deliver talks on contemporary business issues. They also conduct mock group discussions and personal interviews besides providing other inputs to make students industry ready. Besides alumni, senior managers are invited to interact with students and deliver talks on themes of national and international significance.
