If you have the drive to succeed, you need to take the wheel in your own hands and put your career in the fast track. That’s just what Vikramaditya Rai, PGDM Batch 2015 – 17, did as he was waiting to complete his CA program in his hometown, Jabalpur. He moved to the Harihar campus of the B School to gain industry exposure that would open new professional avenues. The first student to be placed from his batch, he hasn’t looked back and is geared up for his role as Business Analyst with Envision Financial Systems.

Accelerating personal and professional growth

Top placements are the final goal for PGDM aspirants, but Vikramaditya remained aware that his two years at the institute will mold him as a professional. He believes that KIAMS did this job effectively by offering him required industry exposure. “There were several industrial visits on sites around Harihar, which gave us an insight into the functioning of a range of companies. We also benefited from guest lectures from industry experts. Their talks on highly relevant topics broadened our horizons,” he says.

Unique internship program brings aspirants close to the finish line

B School internships offer students real-life experience of the corporate world. KIAMS has a unique four-month long internship program that gives students a deeper understanding of respective industries and organizations. On this, Vikramaditya said: “The two month period is just not enough to have the opportunity to make a difference in an organization. My internship gave me immense practical exposure in Finance domain, which was my main area of interest in the first place.”

Crucial pit-stop before placements

According to Vikramaditya, recruiters look for professionals who are team players. In that regard KIAMS had prepared him through group projects and assignments, which required students to work in teams. But the placement season called for special preparations. “A number of Group Discussions and Interviews were organized well before the placement season,” he explains. “It helped me stay up-to-date with latest news and brush up my learning from previous three semesters.”

Zooming past contemporaries

Vikramditya was the first student from his batch to bag a placement this season. Given the fact that the brand name and job profile matched his professional interests to the T, he didn’t care much for exploring other options. “Placements for Envision Financial Systems began with a pool process with candidates from different colleges and ended after several rounds. I am glad I got through because the role offered to me is just what I was looking for,” he says with a smile.

Across the finish line

He informs us that Envision Financial Systems has a strong presence in the US and India, and it is an organization that caters to US Mutual Fund industry intermediaries. As a Business Analyst, he would be treading unexplored territory, which can be challenging but also offers him opportunities to shine. “In five years’ time I see myself working as a Lead Analyst with the same organization handling various responsibilities. I can do it through hard work and dedication,” he adds confidently.
