Siddharth Modukuri is not taking his success lightly. A Business Management student from the 14th Batch of KIAMS, Siddharth has just tasted success, having cracked a coveted on-campus placement as a Territory Sales Manager with Idea Cellular.
“Given the times, Success is a rare guest. While one should not be looking for it at every nook and corner, when success does show up, one should treat it with respect. You cannot ask it to stay longer because it needs to visit other places too! “
A Bio-Tech Engineer, Siddharth wanted to tap into his managerial abilities, which prompted him to appear for CAT 2011. The result was quite a windfall. He made it to three prominent B-schools of the country – one in Bangalore, another in Delhi, and the third one KIAMS. Siddhartha decided to find out for himself the institution that would define his future.
“The first thing that struck me when I visited KIAMS was the sense of space, the lush green surroundings and its amazing ambience. I spoke to some of my future seniors and Faculty members, and that was it! KIAMS had won hands down on all points of comparison. KIAMS has provided for a holistic learning environment. KIAMS was a strong learning experience. It was not a walk in park for sure. There were instances where we didn’t have time to turn our heads to someone calling our names. Everyone teaches you in the KIAMS campus.”
As the Territory Sales Manager at Idea Cellular, Siddharth’s job will pivot around building relationships and nurturing connectivity.
“Selling goes beyond brand and beyond company. It takes courage to be the sales guy. They generate the actual revenue for a company. Sales is not something that is done in AC offices peering into fancy screens. You have to be in the field, talking to people, understanding them, and delivering solid results. Thanks to KIAMS, I am prepared for this.”
Siddharth has all the reasons to feel that KIAMS prepares you at the most basic level. Not very long ago, when it came to choosing his internship, Siddharth had chosen Sujana Metals – a company known for its strong foundation down south with a strong presence in steel, power, energy and connected sectors.
“I had the opportunity of working in steel retail selling. My project was the launch of TMT Bars in retail market. I did this internship in Hyderabad. It took me to a completely different level. It was very different from what I have expected. We had to go around Hyderabad in the scorching sun, scouting for new retail shops for the TMT bars. I covered between 300 to 400 retail outlets. Professional communication doesn’t work out in such markets. You have to talk the local language, at their level and on their terms; it was an absolute eye-opener. Being from Hyderabad helped me, otherwise two months is a very short time for the amount of work and learning possible in this space.”
No wonder therefore that Siddharth was able to convert 30 dealers for Sujana Metals, in one go.
Siddharth believes that sound academic base is cause for answering with confidence and logical backing; instead of shooting in the dark. KIAMS, to him, has a way of giving autonomy to choose one’s frequency, rather than forcing a standard set of rules to swallow. This gives out-of-box thinking and nurtures creativity.
“Personally, my experience at KIAMS has made me stop brooding over weaknesses, and actually leverage on them. During interviews, retaining composure at all times helps. Without getting too aggressive or defensive, just observe. Do not let your brain get blocked by prejudices.”
Siddharth Modukuri advises his juniors at KIAMS that it is the kind of project that will decide what one is going to learn… not the brand name. He is confident that his profile at Idea Cellular will propel him to perform, instead of running into a comfort zone.
