“The Placement season at KIAMS was a transition period where I had to prioritize my placement preparation over all the other things in my life. It required a huge effort to nail a spot at Smart Cube. These have been the most challenging days in KIAMS.”
It has been a long journey for this small-town girl from Asansol in West Bengal. After completing her B.Com (Honours) from Calcutta University, Laxmi joined one of the prominent institutes that train aspirants to ‘bell the CAT’. With hardwork and perseverance, she was able to make it to quite a few well-known B-schools across the country. Interestingly, wherever she turned for opinion – from her training institute, to reviews on the prominent sites like Pagalguy.com, to top-notch management fora online – KIAMS was highly spoken off.
“It was surprising. KIAMS is not one of the so-called ‘popular’ institutes amongst the masses, and yet knowledgeable individuals and management fora seemed to be completely in sync about its ‘Top 10’ credentials. Soon I realised that KIAMS does not resort to hype…. It does not need to. With extremely sound rooting in the industry in the form of brand Kirloskar, it actually attracts the best of the talent.
It is for this reason that the RoI (Return on Investment) given by this institution was too good to believe.”
The profile offered to Laxmi at Smart Cube is that of a Business Analyst. While the package of 6.00 Lakhs per annum was certainly a big consideration, the clinching part of the deal was the profile itself.
“At Smart Cube, I will be a part of the Research Team. The team is responsible not just for market research, but also expected to provide analysis on various industries, and conduct financial analysis to understand the health of companies and sectors.”
Clearly, it is a job that requires superior problem solving abilities and a strong analytical bent of mind. Laxmi feels that this was precisely the reason why she was able to land the spot at Smart Cube. She believes KIAMS has prepared her well for such a fast-paced and challenging environment.
“When I look back, I can spot the difference between what I was and what I am today. These two years at KIAMS have been a continuous learning process for me. Every single individual in KIAMS has taught me and helped me refine my personality. I learned how to balance my personal and professional life, thanks to the hectic and rigorous schedule of KIAMS. We received excellent pedagogy by some of the world-class educators like Professor Gopal Iyenger, Professor T. Vishwanathan, and Professor V. S. Pai.”
The course curriculum at KIAMS is excellent, and helps students understand the importance of a holistic approach to problem solving. It helps you develop an eye for details. In short, KIAMS helps you develop a strong business acumen.”
Laxmi believes that sooner or later everybody in the corporate world hit the stage where his/her career begins to stagnate. The only way to outgrow this would be a skill-enhancing management education as provided by KIAMS. With the rigors of the corporate world just a few months away, Laxmi Gupta is currently focusing on enjoying the last few days on the sprawling, lush green KIAMS campus, without worrying about tomorrow.
