KIAMS – a step in the right direction The KIAMS experience

Selecting the right college to do a post-graduation degree is probably the most important decision students have to make and for Rohit Agarwal, this process was no different. Having received offer letters from various top-notch colleges in the country Agarwal decided to zero in on the Kirloskar Institute of Advanced Management Studies (KIAMS), Harihar, Karnataka, after a lot of forethought and research into the kind of Business School he was looking for.

With a placement record of 100 per cent, excellent faculty, an emphasis on extra-curricular activities, a curriculum that competes with the best B-Schools as well as a wealth of industry interface, KIAMS encourages its students to grow in the most holistic way possible. “These were most definitely many of the reasons I chose to study at KIAMS,” says Agarwal adding that the backing of the industrial house behind the Institute also helped him make his decision.

“KIAMS Harihar’s state-of-the-art campus, which is one of the best in the country, is set in idyllic lush, green surroundings. Being in the fresh air only gives students like me, the enthusiasm to learn and make the most of the opportunities on offer,” says Agarwal. The library, which is an important part of any B-School, is equipped with all the modern facilities and offers its students an enviable range of books and journals.

It helped that the faculty went out of their way to lend a helping hand. “The faculty is very supportive, very accessible and is always at hand to motivate me to improve in every area,” says Agarwal, adding that the finance faculty guided him to a successful completion of the NSE’s Certification in Financial Markets course. “It is due to KIAMS’ exceptional faculty and the lessons I imbibed – those of taking on the challenges, consistently honing my skills to be at my best and staying focused on my goals – that I can safely say that I have become a lot more confident,” says Agarwal. The Institute’s busy schedule ensured that time management has been part of Agarwal’s learning curve. “I have also learnt to take responsibilities and lead from the front. With growing competition in the job market it’s becoming very difficult to match up to the expectations of the corporate world,” says Agarwal. However, the KIAMS experience ensures that students have the kind of knowledge and practical exposure that helps them face such tough situations with ease.

Studying at KIAMS, Harihar is not only about academics. Equal emphasis is given to extra-curricular activities. “I love to play cricket and KIAMS has its own ground. I also swim and have taken to playing volleyball ever since I joined the Institute. I also take great pleasure in travelling – being in Karnataka helps as it is home to a number of tourist resorts which I take time to explore whenever I get a day off,” says Agarwal adding that his journey at KIAMS has been one of learning coupled with pleasure.

In the ultimate analysis as he says, “The strengths I’ve acquired at KIAMS, like confidence, communication and leadership have not only helped me become a better and more focused person but will also ensure that I do well in the career of my choice.”
