The ‘Tenth International Conference on Healthcare Systems and Global Business Issues’ was held at Kirloskar Institute of Advanced Management Studies, Pune Campus. The 2 day conference held through January 2 and 3, 2017 attracted participation from leading academicians from all around the world, representing prominent foreign universities and B-schools. Many Indian professors and Researchers participated in this 2 day International event. The first ever at KIAMS. The Conference was held in collaboration with Houston Clear Lake University, USA. The conference also released the Research journal containing 40 research papers covering various areas of management and healthcare systems.
Apart from numerous interesting panel discussions, the conference also saw nearly 40 research papers being presented by professors from KIAMS and other institutions. Students from India and US universities also participated and presented research papers along with faculty members. Apart from academicians and students, the Conference also saw attendance by corporate stalwarts from Manufacturing, Consulting, and Consumer Durable sectors.
The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. Rahul C. Kirloskar, Executive Chairman, Kirloskar Pneumatic Co. Ltd. Proceedings began on the morning of January 2 with the Welcome address by Dr C.N Narayana, Principal Director, KIAMS who welcomed delegates saying, “this is a proud moment for KIAMS, which is hosting eminent academicians from around the world. I am thankful to all the delegates, panel members from Frost and Sullivan, Haier India, Intel, Belmont University US a few to mention who are here to share their knowledge with us.” Conference Program Chair Prof. Ashish Chandra, University of Houston – Clear Lake, USA then went on to explain what the Conference was all about to participants, stating “this event offers participants the unique opportunity to learn about latest developments and theories in the business world, across many sectors”. Mr. Kirloskar also expressed thanks to the participants and assembled faculty. “I am sure everyone present here looks forward to two engaging days of discussion on many interesting and topics including technology, healthcare, management issues. He also touched upon the history of entrepreneurship quoting Kirloskar’s own example and brining Internet Of things (IOT) at the forefront connecting to the pace of change happening in the world.” he said.
Day 1 proceedings began with the Special Sessions in venues spread across the picturesque campus. The first of these was “Marketing Research – Role in Strategic Decisions”, moderated by Dr. D.N.Murthy, Director, KIAMS. The panellists for this session were Mr.Vijay Kakade, Former Vice-President, Frost and Sullivan, Mr.Sathish, Senior Vice-Pesident, Haier India, and Prof. David Wyant, Belmont University, USA. The second Special Session of the morning was “Self-Handicapping – Understanding the Basics of why and how managers hurt their careers”, moderated by Prof. Ashish Chandra. Key participants in this session were Alex Habib, University of Houston – Clear Lake, USA, and Mariana Smith, University of Houston – Clear Lake, USA. Additional Co-Authors were Prof. Phillip Decker, University of Houston – Clear, Lake, USA, and Prof. Jordan Mitchell, University of Houston – Clear, Lake, USA. Both sessions provided a lot of current insights and expert opinions to participants and students interested in Marketing and HRM.
The Paper Presentations that began in the afternoon session of Day 1 witnessed eminent faculty from varied institutions presenting around 15 research papers to participants. The institutions represented included: Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences, University of Evansville, USA, University of Houston-Clear Lake, USA, Xai Family Medical Clinic, USA, Belmont University, USA, Panama Wind Energy Developers, India, KIAMS, Nirma University, Surana College, University of Iasi, Romania, among others.
The last session of Day 1 was titled “Going to America for Higher Studies – An Overview of the International Student Application Process and What International Students Should Expect so as to Succeed”. The moderator for this session was Mr.William B. Stroube, from University of Evansville, USA and panellists included Ashish Chandra, University of Houston – Clear Lake, USA and Danielle Riley, University of Houston, USA. This particular session was of great interest to students planning to study further in the USA.
Day 2 saw a continuation of paper presentations by faculty and representatives from institutions like ISBR Business School, Dr Ambedkar Institute of Management Studies, Bangalore University, Intel Corporation, BMS College of Engineering, Koshys Institute of Management Studies, among others. As many as 18 papers were presented on Day 2.
The Closing Ceremony was presided over by Dr. D.N.Murthy and included addresses by Program Chair, Guests of Honour, and KIAMS leadership Dr. C.N.Narayana.
The event provided participants, KIAMS faculty, and students the opportunity to learn from and interact with faculty from around the world and industry experts thus enhancing their learning experience and academic knowledge.
