KIAMS is a B-school which focuses on both teachings as well as research. The latter reinforces the former. I as the Dean Research of KIAMS, need to drive not only the volume of the output but also ensure that it is ploughed back to classroom teaching be it research papers or case studies. This, in our view, makes teaching contemporary and linked to existing organizational realities.

A faculty member at KIAMS is expected to engage in research and publish the output in peer-reviewed journals both domestic and foreign. In an academic year, a faculty member is expected to publish two research outputs, which can take various forms. To incentivize the teaching fraternity, the Institute provides funds to a faculty to attend academic conferences in which his or her research output has been accepted for presentation. Further, research and publication form an important component of a faculty’s annual performance appraisal. During the preceding years academics from the Institute have visited Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, and Sri Lanka besides Indian states to present their research output in reputed conferences.

Besides research papers both conceptual and empirical, members of the teaching fraternity are encouraged to write management cases. These may be field cases on live organizations based on visiting the company/organization to develop the case. Cases may also be based on secondary or published data/information, also known as library cases. Depending on the availability of time, funds and aptitude a faculty member engage in developing either of these two types of cases. Such cases are made a part of the curriculum of the Institute and discussed in the class. This is a unique dimension of KIAMS, i.e. enriching the students’ classroom experience based on the research inputs of professors.

Some of the journals/books/online publications in which KIAMS’ faculty have published management cases are The Case Centre U. K., The Case Centre USA, American Marketing Association, Business Case Journal (USA), International Journal of Case Studies in Management (Canada), Asian Case Research Journal (World Scientific, Singapore), SAGE Business Cases (UK), South Asian Journal of Business and Management Cases (SAGE) and Services Marketing Cases in Emerging Markets: An Asian Perspective (Springer).

Research papers written by KIAMS professors have been published in journals such as the European Journal of Economics and Management (UK), Review of Integrated Business and Economic Research (Bangkok), IIMB Management Review, Decision (IIM Calcutta), Finance India, etc.
