Bhuvnesh Balki just returned experiencing the tools and tricks of Event Management at his Business Emersion project with ASMA (Adoption of Social Media in Academia, an initiative of FMA Digital)

Admissions, placements, promotion, branding, academics, industry interface, alumni relationship, and campus life comprise the many facets of an academic institution. Adoption of Social Media in Academia or ASMA, the brainchild of FMA digital, empowers institutions to manage these multiple and connected fronts via social media. Through business immersion programs and live projects, KIAMS supports ASMA – India’s first research-based initiative that brings together social media and the academia.

Let’s hear what Mr. Bhuvnesh Balki, KIAMS student, Event Manager for ASMA, and now one of the five students selected for the business immersion program, has to say.

‘ASMA enabled me to gain practical experience of the market. Among other things, the engagement has helped me improve communication and analytical skills and imbibe techniques to address the challenges of B2B markets.’

With event management as a focus area, Bhuvnesh’s work involved looking after all aspects and activities related to this crucial function.Alongside designing event agenda and communication, coordinating with the social media team handling event-related content, and contributing to finalize the venue, Bhuvnesh helped formulate the sponsorship proposal for garnering the required funds for the event.

But his work was not limited to only event management. Bhuvnesh was also part of the team handling revenue. ‘Being part of the revenue-management team, I could contribute in formulating various revenue generation streams, generating and converting leads for MDP, and handling sales of ASMA research reports.’

Realising early that expertise in project management is crucial in handling business, Bhuvnesh focused on delivering the best on his role and responsibilities.‘This project has played a major part in improving my selling skills, developing an awareness of the knowledge and attributes necessary to become an effective leader, identifying key interpersonal and teamwork skills to manage teams, and learning to pursue the assigned work with undiminished efficiency while quickly adapting to changed conditions or situations.’

Never losing sight of his work objectives, Bhuvnesh has picked up skills that now add strength in his approach to customers, when he talk holistically about the ASMA project, and when he tries to convince customers how they can derive benefits from the initiative. Embracing challenges, Bhuvnesh imbibed new methods and ways to achieve the target.

‘Overall the ASMA project has been a great learning experience. Learned much, and still more to learn. Each day at ASMA opened up new vistas – enabling me to apply classroom learning in the real world and face real business situations.’
