B. Com graduate Aarya Singh had developed a keen interest in Finance and wanted to make a career in the corporate world. She realized that KIAMS offered management aspirants a dual specialization in Marketing and Finance, an option that offered her the flexibility she wanted. Today, the student of PGDM Batch 2015 – 17 has been placed with a renowned firm like TATA AIG as a Senior Executive. It might be the beginning of a promising career but she knows that the foundation for it was laid the day she stepped foot on the KIAMS campus.
On campus learning
Aarya remembers herself as a nervous student who was intent on finding her identity. Today she believes that she has gained it, both on personal and professional levels. And for that she thanks the support of her B-School, its faculty team and peers as well. “For me, the KIAMS campus is a holy place that has completely changed my life, she says. “We have students from all over the country and each one of them brings a unique perspective to the classroom. As we all dealt with deadlines, assignment pressure, we forged long-standing bonds with each other.”
Faculty team as mentors
Faculty team at the B-School is experienced, with many of them having spent years in the industry. According to Aarya they take interest in each of the students, try to bring those lagging behind up to speed and are accessible to support them whenever needed. Talking about their role in her growth she says, “They are interested in the holistic development of students rather than just helping them score marks. Besides theoretical learning, they offer you practical exposure, which is handy for your professional career.”
SIP of corporate life
For Aarya, practical exposure also came in the form of her summer internship placement with the multinational stock broking firm, PhillipCapital. As a Relationship Manager, she had to fix meetings with clients and deal with professionals. It helped her with her communication skills, body language, and other personality traits. “It helped me during the placement process that mainly included the Aptitude Test, Group Discussion, and Personal Interview. The questions were based on the present economic scenario and general awareness,” she says.
Right platform for professional growth
Now that she has had a head start in her professional sphere, Aarya wants to make a place for herself with TATA AIG. While she misses her campus, friends and faculty members, there is a lot to look forward to as well. “I am raring to go on my professional journey. To my juniors, I would like to say that doing dual specialization boosts your chances with more recruiters and that can work to your advantage,” she speaks from her own experience.
